2) The Nova Scotia Experience: Express Entry Stream

Selects highly qualified individuals who wish to reside permanently in Nova Scotia. Applicants must have at least one year of experience in a highly skilled occupation in Nova Scotia.

  • possess a minimum of one year of work experience in Nova Scotia;
  • 21 to 55 years of age;
  • possess a Canadian secondary school diploma or an equivalent;

3) Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities

The 2018 Nova Scotia Labour Market Priorities stream selects candidates in the federal Express Entry system who meet the province’s labor market needs in order to be considered for nomination. Candidates may only apply if they have received a Letter of Interest from the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration.

Requirements to apply:

  • receive a Letter of Interest through the Express Entry system from the Nova Scotia Nominee Program;

4) Physician

The Physician Stream assists the Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) and the Izaak Walton Killam Health Centre (IWK) in recruiting general practitioners, family physicians, and specialists to work in Nova Scotia. The stream enables the NSHA and IWK to recruit and retain physicians with the necessary qualifications for positions they have been unable to fill with permanent residents or Canadian citizens.

Requirements to Apply

The Physician Stream is restricted to general practitioners and family physicians (NOC 3112) and specialist physicians (NOC 3111) who have signed opportunities with the Nova Scotia Health Authority or the IWK Health Centre.

The approved opportunity must be printed on official NSHA or IWK letterhead and must include the following:

  • Be signed and dated by an authorized NSHA or IWK physician hiring official
  • Be signed and dated by the applicant who accepts the offer.
  • Indicate licensure eligibility with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.
  • Indicate that the applicant is qualified to submit an application for privileges and credentials with NSHA and IWK.

5) Entrepreneur

The Entrepreneur Stream is for seasoned business owners and senior business managers who wish to relocate to Nova Scotia. They must start a new business or acquire an existing one, and they must actively manage the business on a daily basis. The entrepreneur may be nominated for permanent resident status after operating the business for one year. The only way to apply for the stream is by invitation.

Requirements to Apply

  • be 21 years of age or older;
  • want to live permanently in Nova Scotia while owning and actively managing a Nova Scotia business;
  • have a net worth of at least $600,000 CAD;
  • be able to invest at least $150,000 CAD of your own money to establish a business in Nova Scotia;
  • have at least 3 years experience actively managing and owning a business (1/3 ownership minimum) OR more than 5 years experience in a senior business management role;
  • have a score of at least 5 on the Canadian Language Benchmark in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in English or French;
  • complete an online Expression of Interest;
  • receive an Invitation to Apply from the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration.

6) International Graduate Entrepreneur

The International Graduate Entrepreneur Stream is for recent university or community college graduates from Nova Scotia. They must have started or acquired a business in Nova Scotia and operated it for at least one year. Graduates who intend to settle in Nova Scotia may be nominated for permanent resident status. The only way to apply for the stream is by invitation.

Requirements to Apply

  • wish to own and actively manage a Nova Scotia business while living in Nova Scotia permanently.
  • minimum of one year’s experience actively managing and owning your current Nova Scotia business (minimum of 100% ownership);

7) Skilled Worker

The Skilled Worker stream assists employers in recruiting foreign workers and international students who have recently graduated and whose skills are in demand in Nova Scotia. An employer may only hire foreign workers for positions that permanent residents or Canadian citizens are unable to fill.

Requirements to Apply

  • have a full-time permanent job offer from a Nova Scotia employer;
  • have 1 year of work experience related to the job. (Semi-skilled and low-skilled workers must already have six months of experience with the employer.);
  • be 21 to 55 years old;
  • have a high school diploma;
  • have the appropriate training, skills, and/or accreditation for the job;
  • prove language ability equal to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 5 if you are a skilled worker. If your first language is English or French, that is enough proof.
